The Multistate Project, a collaborative effort of Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota, used criminal history files, death records, Supplementary Homicide Reports and Uniform Crime Reports to study the use of firearms in the commission of crime in these four states. Aside from results of the data analysis, some of the most revealing project findings came in the form of lessons learned on how states can carry out such cooperative endeavors.
